We (Rob and Amanda) decided to set up Hoppy Pets in 2022. With an ever growing family of rescue rabbits, we wanted people to have somewhere they could go to where 100% of the products were going to be safe for rabbits and where rabbit parents could have peace of mind when shopping for their pet. So Hoppy Pets was born! We were originally based in Wiltshire but now have our new unit on the Hampshire / Wiltshire border. We ship across the UK, including Jersey, Guernsey and N. Ireland. We offer local delivery and also collection at our store. With 11 rescue rabbits of our own, we are very passionate about their welfare of rabbits and aim to only stock only safe treats and toys. Find rabbit rescues in the UK that we support and how your purchases help rabbits in need. UK Rabbit Rescues A little bit about rabbits and the rescues Rabbit rescues across the country are overwhelmed at the moment with the huge intake of rabbits. A lot of rabbits are dumped, abandoned, neglected or just not wanted anymore as the 'novelty' has worn off. Often people will buy rabbits as gifts for Easter or Christmas, on a whim or for their children, without realising the costs involved. Requirements Rabbits should have at least one friend to live with and they should be neutered and vaccinated each year against Myxomatosis, Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease-1 (RVHD-1) and Rabbit Viral Haemorrhagic Disease-2 (RVHD-2). A lot of vets now offer this vaccination as an all in one, which can be given each year as a booster along with a health check. Please ensure you have a rabbit savvy vet. A great list can be found on the The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund (RWAF) website here. Think a hutch in the garden is enough for your rabbits? Think again! Rabbits need a lot of SPACE. They need space to stretch, run, binky (a delightful jump and twist in the air - this is wonderful to see and shows pure joy), periscope, hop, climb and jump. The RWAF recommends a single enclosed area with a MINIMUM space of 3m x 2m x 1m high for 2 rabbits. All outside space should be predator proof against foxes, birds of prey, other pets and small rodents / mammals (yes foxes can jump 6ft high fences and walls - even in built up areas, they still exist!). A minimum of 16g mesh is required with holes no bigger than 3cm to ensure all runs are predator proof. Remember rabbits can dig and so can predators. Runs should be placed on patio areas, or other preventative measures should be taken. Rabbits also require enrichment, food, forage, toys, places to hide, sleep and feel safe. Remember rabbits are a commitment for the rest of their lives. With proper care, they can live 12+ years. So you still want a rabbit? We have compiled a list of rescues that have confirmed to us that they undertake home checks and adhere to the RWAF guidelines to ensure their rabbits are going to only the best homes.
